Happy New Year - 2009
Turning it up a notch!
by Ron Morrison

It is hard to believe that yet another year has passed!  I am getting older and frankly I don't like it.  (I know I am not as old as some of you reading this article, so my condolence on unexplained aches and pains.  And for those of you younger than me... your time is coming!)

As you start 2009 you have most likely set resolutions or goals.  Undoubtedly some are personal and some are business related.  What I believe to be a rather sad commentary about today's world is that statistics tell us 90% of all people who set resolutions and goals this time of year will give up on achieving them within the first few days of the new year!  Of the remaining 10%, only half of them will make it past the end of January and of that half, only one third of them will hit their year end target.  Pretty dismal numbers in the grand scheme of things!

As I talk with business and organizational leaders in a wide variety of disciplines, I hear their repeated concerns on this topic!  I think this problem is easy for me to understand as I believe in the last few decades our culture has been a little slack on a few important items like goal setting, accountability, and individual responsibility. (Insert AMEN here!)

So - are you different?  Will you be in the small, small minority at the end of 2009?  Will you have set and hit goals?

As you set your goals for 2009 I want to encourage you to reach for what you believe is beyond your grasp.  Set your mind on the target.  Live to the target.  Behave to the target.  Change your mental and actual vocabulary to the target.  (A personal goal for me in 2008 was soft drinks.  In 2008 I completely gave them up.  Sounds simple, but let me assure you moving from 3 Diet Cokes a day, an occasional Dr. Pepper, and Barqs Root Beer- this was no easy task.  Lord - I miss the taste of cola!)

Below is a short and simple video that I am sharing with you.  The message is very simple, very clear, and often causes me to reflect on my objectives and my actions (or inactions) toward those objectives.  Simply click the banner below to view the movie... it will only take about 90 seconds to watch and I feel certain it will impact your thoughts on achievement!

In closing, as 2008 comes to an end, I wish you a Happy New Year and I hope that you accomplish all you set your mind on in 2009!!!
